A Typical Day in First Grade

8:40-10:30
We work on literacy at this time.  Our school has adopted the Houghton Mifflin Reading Series.  During this time we write a morning message, work on daily phonemic awareness, work on oral language, listening skills and comprehension skills.  The children respond to a selected piece of literature, also.  We also have guided reading.

10:30-10:45
Recess

10:45-11:50
At this time we work on phonics, spelling and word work and Guided Reading

12:00-12:30
Lunch

12:20-2:00
Teacher read aloud begins this section of the day.  After, we have a special class and then it's calendar math and our daily math lesson which may include math journals.

2:00-2:15
Recess

2:15-3:10
Teacher read aloud
Science and Social Studies
Clean up
Pass out folders
Get ready to go home
