Songkran

Songkran is a celebration. It is a water festival that celebrates the Thai New Year. People pour water on each other. Some use water guns or big buckets and others use different kinds of objects that are for water. People take big containers of water and pour it on people.

They celebrate this from April 13th. Thai people wear costumes for the festival. They use silver bowls that are full of water and flowers. In Songkran they should wear bathing suits, because they would get soaked. The children pour scented water over their parents’ hands as a sign of respect. Thai people love-celebrating Songkran. They put powder on each other’s faces.

Children play with water pistils to squirt people.

Loy Krathong

Loy Krathong

We have Loy Krathong on November 19th. We make Krathongs with banana leaves, banana stalks and inside it we put flowers and candles. Then we dress in our Thai traditional clothes. After that we go to the roundhouse and dance the Thai traditional dances. After we dance the Thai traditional dance we sing the Loy Krathong song. Then we go to the swimming pool and float the Krathong on the pool. The Krathong will bring you good luck and throw the bad luck away. Before you float the Krathong on the swimming pool we have a beauty contest in the roundhouse.
