Meet Mrs. Mead
![]()
I was born and raised in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago. I attended Fairview Elementary, Central Junior High, and graduated from Prospect High School's class of '69.
I graduated in 1973 from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education. I moved to Escanaba, Michigan to accept my first teaching position--a high school resource room at Escanaba High School. The day I moved to Escanaba, I met Loren Mead, whom I married on April 6, 1974.

I taught in Escanaba for 3 1/2 years, until my first child, Misti, was born. I was a stay at home mom for 12 years. I continued to teach part time in Escanaba's Adult Education program and at Bay College, while enjoying being home with my children. Trevin arrived from Colombia in 1982, and Amanisha arrived from India in 1988. I loved being a stay at home mom, but I was anxious to return to full-time teaching when they got older.

In 1989, I returned to teaching full-time at Manistique High School . After one year in the resource room there, I accepted a position with Gladstone Schools as a special education teacher at Flat Rock Elementary School. I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 years at Flat Rock, but decided a change was necessary, and in 1996, I moved to Cameron Elementary School to teach 2nd grade. I have taught third grade for four years, and I love it!
I love teaching, and can't imagine anything
else I would rather do.
In my free time, I enjoy camping, reading, and
photography.
(My husband says that I need to add shopping!)
