Class Procedures

1. Daily folders (purple) go home everyday and come back the next morning. Notes from school, homework, and graded papers go inside.

2. Students fill assignment book out daily.

3. Return all homework. Consequences: Automatic 30% grade reduction for late homework. Zero percent is recorded for assignments that are more than a day late.

4. All assignments are to be completed. Some assignments are for practice; therefore not all papers graded go into the grade book.  If the lower right hand corner is clipped, the assignment was entered into the grade book.

5. Students have four minutes to go to the bathroom before school, at the beginning of 1st recess, at the beginning of lunch recess, and again at the beginning of third recess. (If your child has special needs please see the school nurse and she will let me know your child's procedure). Hand sanitizers are allowed in class.

6. Students need to put their name and student number on all papers (There will be an automatic 10% grade reduction if they forget after the 2nd week of school).

7. Five library books are signed out on Tuesday afternoon. Two Accelerated Reader books stay at school every week and three other books can go home!

Accelerated Reader Test (AR) will be taken and passed at your child's reading level. Students can test twice a week during library time, in class after assignments are completed, and at recess (in the library). Beginning the 3rd week in September, our James T. Jones Title I aides will test your child to find their reading level and reading range using the S.T.A.R. computer test. The S.T.A.R. reading test results will be sent home as soon as I receive them. Each term the following AR points will need be  accumulated for each student:

1st term 5 points

2nd term 10 points

3rd term 15 points

4th term 20 points

The allotted AR points count toward your child's reading grade (20%). So, I recommend that your child read for at least 20 minutes per night to ensure they accumulate all their points.

8. Spelling and vocabulary words go home every Monday. Also spelling pretests go home every Monday so your child knows which words they need to study. Both vocabulary and spelling test are on Friday. Students who spell their entire regular and challenge words correctly earn a dum-dum sucker (or another small treat) at the end of each week.

9. Students may bring water bottles but they are to be taken home daily. Maintenance staff will discard water bottles left at school.

10. Friday folders (red) are sent home on the last day of each week and then returned with parent/guardian signature on the first day of every week. It is important that you monitor your child's weekly progress.

11. So students do not disrupt others when they are finished with class work, they are expected to silently read a library book.
