A Timetable for College-bound Students

Junior Year in High School

·       Examine the educational opportunities available to you.  Discuss your plans with your parents

·       Meet with your high school counselor

 (Mrs. Woelffer).

·       Register for and take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) which is given in October

·       Continue to select appropriate courses to meet college entrance requirements

·       Set up a calendar for taking standardized test (ACT and/or the SAT) and completing college applications. ACT www.act.org SAT www.sat.org.

·       Consider people to ask for letters of recommendation.

·       Visit college campuses: talk with graduates and students of the colleges you are considering.

·       Begin military academy applications

·       Attend local college fairs to examine a wide variety of schools

·       If you are hoping for an athletic scholarship complete the NCAA Eligibility Clearinghouse Form after your junior year. See Mr. Houle for the form.

Senior Year in High School

June, July, and August

·       Visit college campuses

September

·       Maintain or improve academic grades during your senior year. Colleges look unfavorably upon falling grades

·       Start send college applications to your top college choices

·       Many Schools require letters of recommendation.  Notify those people you plan to use as references.

October and November

·       See Mrs. Woelffer for assistance if you need help with college information

·       Stop procrastinating! Send your college applications in NOW!

·       Take necessary entrance tests.  Have your test scores forwarded to the colleges you are considering.

December and January

·       Some colleges offer tentative acceptance to outstanding candidates at this time.

·       Apply for need-based state and/or federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Forms are available from Mrs. Woelffer and there is also a financial aid workshop in January.

·       Start checking with Mrs. Woelffer about scholarship opportunities

February and March

·       Continue checking for scholarships information

·       Combat “SENIORITIS” by staying involved

April, May and June

·       Keep track of acceptance, rejections, and financial aid awards.

·       Reply promptly to each college to notify them of your decision

·       Pay close attention to deadlines

·       Promptly submit deposits required for admission and housing at the college you will attend.
