 Second Grade Goals and Objectives

English/Language Arts

1)Write a short story using power writing techniques.

2) Write a complete sentence using an uppercase letter to begin the sentence and appropriate punctuation to end the sentence.

3) Read and comprehend a story @ grade level.

4) Correctly spell a list of 14 grade level words per week.

5) Identifies long vowel sounds in words including vowel pairs and diphthongs.

6) Correctly decode and read two and three syllable words using consonant vowel patterns and syllabication.

7) Successfully read and test on grade level Accelerated Reader books @ grade level.

8) Print neatly and accurately with correct spacing when writing. Cursive writing instruction will begin after Christmas break.

9) Increase word fluency to a rate of 90 w.p.m. by the end of second grade.

10) Correctly identify and read vocabulary and high frequency words @ a second grade level.

Math

1) Counts to 1000 by: 1's, 5's, 10's.

2) Writes to 1000 by: 1's

3) Recognizes numbers to 1000 out of sequence

4) Compute addition and subtraction facts with and without regrouping.

5) Recognize and know the value of coins: penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and half-dollar.

6) Evaluate and calculate the amount of money needed to purchase an item along with figuring out the correct change.

7) Measure in inch and 1/2 inch increments.

8) Tell time to the hour, half hour, quarter to and quarter past the hour.

9) Read line, circle, picture and bar graphs.

10) Measure volume of liquids and weight of solids.
