WRITER'S TOOLBOX

![]()
Each week the Writer's Toolbox goes home with one student. It is a project to promote a positive home-school connection while improving student achievement in writing. The Toolbox contains pens, pencils, markers, blank books, writing paper, a spelling dictionary and a rhyming dictionary. Once at home, the child decorates a "thinking cap" and then wears it while creating a story. A stuffed spider named "WEBS" is included in the Toolbox to inspire and help the child to write. Parents are encouraged to help their child write and illustrate their story. When the Toolbox is returned, the child shares the story with their classmates while sitting upon a special author's stool. The child wears the "thinking cap" while WEBS sits on their lap. The child's story and picture is then placed on display on a special bulletin board outside the classroom for all to enjoy.
